What Is a VPS?
A VPS is a Virtual Private Server created inside a physical server using virtualization technology. One powerful physical server is divided into several independent virtual machines. Each virtual machine has its own operating system, IP address, file system, RAM, CPU resources, and configuration.
From the user’s perspective, a VPS works much like a separate physical server. You can install applications, create users, configure web servers and databases, set up a firewall, run a VPN, and manage other system services.
A VPS is also sometimes called a VDS, or Virtual Dedicated Server. Hosting providers commonly use the terms VPS and VDS for the same type of virtual server.
How Does a VPS Work?
A hypervisor is installed on the physical server to create and manage virtual machines. Each VPS runs in an isolated environment and cannot directly access the operating systems of other customers.
A virtual server receives its own configuration:
